In 2020, while the world slowed down and uncertainty filled the air, something unexpected was happening behind closed doors. Industries were adapting, creativity was finding new paths, and for our eldest boy, George, a brand new journey was just beginning.
At just 8 years old, during the height of the COVID-19 lockdowns, George stepped into the world of voice-over work—an industry traditionally dominated by adults and reliant on professional studio spaces. But as restrictions tightened and many voice-over artists were suddenly unable to access recording studios, George's Dad Brett had an idea.
We already had a recording studio at home due to Brett's experience in radio and marketing, so it made sense to introduce George to the world of voiceovers. We never could have imagined how George's voice would suddenly become the voice behind many cartoon characters, adverts, Youtube videos and many more.
With a natural confidence, a youthful tone and genuine delivery he became very popular and the requests came flooding in, all with 5 star reviews and plenty of repeat business.
What makes George’s story so unique isn’t just his age—it’s the moment in time that shaped his start.
The pandemic disrupted so many industries, but it also accelerated change. Voice-over became more accessible, more flexible, and more open to new talent than ever before. For George, that shift created a pathway that might not have existed otherwise.
This YouTube video is one of my favourites. George is the 'turtle' and I was sad that it stopped at 2 videos as I think the animation and scripts are great! Bring back Lewis & Clark!
