Ten-year-old seashore explorer William Orchard invites children to discover the hidden wonders of the coast
A 10-year-old nature-loving explorer is hoping to inspire more children to swap screens for rockpools, fossils and seaside adventure with the launch of his new book, William’s Wild World: Secrets of the Seashore.

Part of the dayslikethis.life family storytelling world, the book is inspired by real adventures along the coasts of Lyme Regis, Beer and Seaton, as well as family explorations in Mazarrón and Bolnuevo, Spain.

Written in William’s own warm, curious voice, the book introduces young readers to the hidden life of the shoreline — from rockpools, crabs and sea anemones to fossils, tides, shipwrecks and coastal wildlife — in a way that feels exciting, accessible and full of wonder.

At its heart, the book is about helping children notice more, ask more questions and fall in love with the natural world around them.

William Orchard said:
“Every rockpool feels like a tiny secret world. I wanted this book to share the excitement of finding amazing creatures, learning cool facts and exploring the beach with your eyes wide open.”
As well as celebrating curiosity and discovery, the book gently encourages children to explore coastal habitats with care, kindness and respect, showing that even the smallest pools and shorelines are delicate little worlds worth protecting.

With strong roots in the much-loved coastal locations of Lyme Regis, Beer and Seaton, the book is expected to appeal to families, schools, libraries, museums, visitor centres, gift shops and media outlets with an interest in children’s books, nature, wildlife, the Jurassic Coast and family days out.
