The Secret of St Mawes: The Storm Children - A New Adventure Begins

Updated: May 16

Some stories just won't let you go.

When I finished writing The Legend of St Mawes, I thought I was ready to step away from the harbour, the storm, the cave, the Rising Sun and the strange magic of that beautiful Cornish village.

But I was wrong.

St Mawes stayed with me.

The gulls over the rooftops. The harbour light. The sea moving beyond the wall. The warmth of the Rising Sun.

And most of all, Jack and Sheila Grady.

That is why I am so excited to announce that a new companion story has begun:

The Secret of St Mawes: The Storm Children

This new book returns to 1936 St Mawes, after the events of The Legend of St Mawes, when the village is trying to settle back into ordinary life.

The storm has passed. The harbour is calm again. The fishing boats are back on the tide. Visitors arrive, summer sunshine warms the whitewashed cottages, and from the outside St Mawes looks as perfect as a postcard.

But for Sheila Grady, everything has changed.

She has seen things no one should be able to explain. She has known friendship, courage and mystery in a way that has left a mark on her forever. While the village moves on, Sheila can't.

Because some stories don't simply end.

Some stories wait.

Some secrets remain hidden in the rocks, in the caves, in the tide, and in the memories of those brave enough to remember.

A Companion Story to The Legend of St Mawes

The Secret of St Mawes: The Storm Children is a follow-up to The Legend of St Mawes, carrying readers back into the world of Jack and Sheila Grady, old St Mawes, the Rising Sun, the harbour, the beach and the mystery that still lingers along the Cornish coast.

This story explores what happens after a great adventure is over.

How do you carry on when something impossible has touched your life?

How do you remember people the world may never understand?

And what if the mystery wasn't finished after all?

Read The Legend of St Mawes First

If you've not yet read The Legend of St Mawes, now is the time.

Before The Secret of St Mawes: The Storm Children arrives, readers need to discover the story that came first: the storm, the cave, the children, the Rising Sun, and the events that changed Sheila and Jack Grady forever.

I don't want to give away the secrets of The Legend of St Mawes, because that story deserves to be discovered properly.

But if you want to understand why Sheila can't stop looking towards the cave…

If you want to know why Jack Grady’s memories matter…

If you want to find out what really happened in St Mawes before this new story begins…

Then you need to read The Legend of St Mawes first.

A New Cornish Adventure Mystery

This new book will once again bring together everything I love about classic children’s adventure stories: friendship, mystery, courage, old secrets, coastal villages, hidden caves, stormy seas and the feeling that something extraordinary might be waiting just around the corner.

But this story also has a quieter heart.

Sheila is not simply setting off on another adventure. She's trying to understand what has happened to her, what she has lost, and what she must now protect.

Around her is St Mawes in 1936: beautiful, working, windswept, warm, dangerous and full of stories.

The harbour.The fishing boats.The Rising Sun.The beach.The cave.The sea.

All of it matters.

All of it has secrets.

The Tide Is Turning Again

I am still at the beginning of writing The Secret of St Mawes: The Storm Children, but already it feels like a story I had to tell.

It feels like returning to somewhere special.

It feels like walking back into the Rising Sun, hearing the gulls outside, seeing the harbour through the window, and realising that Sheila Grady has been waiting there all along.
