I’ve always believed that the most powerful children’s ideas are the ones that start from something real.
That’s exactly how William’s Wild World: Secrets of the Seashore began.
What started as William’s genuine love of rockpooling, coastal wildlife and seaside exploration became a book. Now, as we continue developing the concept visually, it’s becoming increasingly clear that it has the makings of something much bigger.
At its heart, it’s a warm, gentle, visually rich children’s world built around curiosity, discovery and the natural magic of the British coastline. Set around Beer, Devon, and led by William with Lola by his side, it feels to me like the kind of concept that could sit very naturally in the space of timeless, story-led children’s television.
I’ve recently been working on an opening sequence for the idea, and seeing it begin to move off the page has been a really exciting reminder that strong IP can start in very simple places.
A child.
 A real passion.
 A distinctive world.
A format with room to grow.
Books, digital, short-form, broadcast, the lines between them are far more fluid than they once were, and the opportunity now is in building ideas with enough heart, identity and flexibility to travel.
This is one of those ideas.
We’re still at an early stage creatively, but I’d love to see where the right conversation could take it.
