The ones I should have kept

Like any true car enthusiast, there are a few that still play on my mind.

Not just because of what they might be worth now, but because of how much I loved them, the work that went into them, or the memories attached to them.

These are the ones that really got away...

KITT from Knight Rider

One of my biggest car regrets has to be selling my screen-accurate KITT from Knight Rider.

Vikki and I did far more than just buy the car. We visited Marks Custom Kits in Kissimmee, Florida, bought everything needed for the conversion, had it shipped back to the UK, and built KITT ourselves.

It was a proper passion project — part classic TV nostalgia, part childhood dream, and part labour of love.

Out of all the cars I should have kept, KITT is right near the top.

Starsky & Hutch Gran Torino

I also had a Starsky & Hutch Gran Torino, imported from BK Automotive in Texas, and it was every bit as cool as you would imagine.

It had huge presence, pure screen appeal and absolutely no interest in being subtle.

It was bold, unforgettable and enormous fun to own although handled like a boat!

Porsche 911 Cabriolet

I’ve owned many Porsche over the years, but this little silver 911 Cabriolet is definitely one I still think about.

There is just something about a 911. It manages to feel special every single time without ever trying too hard.

Elegant, timeless and beautifully judged.

Bentley Mulsanne Turbo

Of all the Bentleys I’ve owned, one Mulsanne Turbo really stands out as one I should never have sold.

It had real presence, real luxury and that wonderful old-school Bentley weight to it. It felt important the moment you opened the door.

The Boat - Glastron GTS 229

And while it was not a car, I would absolutely put my Glastron GTS229 in the same category.

I put a lot into that boat, and that is why selling it still nags at me. It was not just something to use on the water, it was another proper project, another thing to take pride in, and another chapter that felt personal. I had so much work done on it that by the time it went, it felt like I had let go of far more than fiberglass and an engine.

I had it branded for the radio station I owned and it was such a cool promo vehicle.
